Functional Groups

The following functional groups exist within NoWAL:

Senior Staff Group (SSG)

The NoWAL Senior Staff Group aims to provide a forum for discussion and sharing of experience across the member institutions. It is a network for all Deputy Librarians, Associate Directors or other appropriate members of staff. The Group meets three times a year, allowing for face-to- face discussions on specific themes / hot topics, or matters beyond the scope of online discussions, and networking.

Procurement Group

The Group aims to:

  • oversee the work of NoWAL joint procurement of Library materials (monographs and serials) ensuring best value for money
  • ensure NoWAL representation at national negotiations of purchasing consortia and to co- ordinate NoWAL involvement in national procurement deals
  • facilitate exchange of experience and horizon scanning among NoWAL members on procurement related issues

The Group meets three times a year, allowing for face-to- face discussions to review contracts, discuss issues relating to framework agreements or specific hot topics / themes, or matters beyond the scope of online discussions, and networking.

Training & Development Group

The Group provides a staff resource to lead and co-ordinate a Training & Development programme on behalf of NoWAL members. It meets at least annually to plan the programme for the forthcoming year. The active discussion list is also used to share information on upcoming events, propose ideas for new events and gather views on future staff development plans.
